Perur Lake
The first project of KKPA was the reclamation of the 264-acre Perur Lake, carried out by its volunteers with Government permission during 2017. Appeals through Social Media attracted volunteers who worked on 4 Sundays to remove thorny trees, shrubs, plastic waste and other waste from the dry lake bed and bunds. With contributions from well-meaning local philanthropists, and effective supervision by KKPA volunteers, the lake bed was cleaned and the rich alluvial soil accumulated over the years was carted away by farmers, with Government permission. The bunds along the lake bed were strengthened. On completion of this work, and with the monsoon rains that year, Perur Lake filled to its full capacity and overflowed after 12 years. Similarly, it has filled to capacity and overflowed from 2018 to 2021.
