Increase of Green Cover

In order to improve biodiversity, increase the green cover and be a deterrent to future encroachment of Government Land, KKPA obtained permission from the Authorities to plant tree saplings along the outer bund of Vellalore Lake. KKPA volunteers along with College Students and well-meaning citizens, worked on Sundays to remove the undergrowth of weeds, thorny shrubs and unwanted trees, levelled the land, dug up the soil, manured and made appropriate beds and planted more than 7500 tree saplings covering 274 different native species, using the Miyawaki plantation method, to accommodate the maximum number of trees in a small area.

In addition to this about 90 varieties of herbal plants have been planted to educate the general public on the medicinal value of these plants. Interested persons have taken saplings from here to plant the same in their houses. In addition to this a butterfly garden was established with over 40 varieties of flowering plants to provide food to butterflies, bees, wasps and other insects.
