Forest Cean-up Drive

The Tamilnadu Forest Department allows pilgrims to visit the Vellingiri Temple, which is nestled in the Western Ghats, on the border of Tamilnadu and Kerala, during the Chitrai Festival in summer, every year. This temple could be reached only on foot through narrow footpaths, after traversing seven hills and steep forest terrain. KKPA volunteers teamed up with the Forest Department to check the luggage carried by the pilgrims. Cloth bags were issued in lieu of plastic bags carried by the pilgrims to prevent plastic pollution in the forests. After the pilgrims left, KKPA volunteers fanned out into the forests and cleaned the garbage in the forest area. In 2019 about 4 tons of garbage and plastic was removed from the forest area.
