Sengulam Lake
The 265-acre Sengulam Lake, situated in the suburbs of Coimbatore, was previously under the local Panchayat and was taken over by the Coimbatore Corporation when its areas were extended. As the lake bed was parched and dry for a number of years the local Panchayat converted a portion of the lake into a garbage dump yard. As a first measure KKPA volunteers removed the thorny bushes, invasive shrubs, plastic and other waste from the lake bed. Further over 1000 lorry loads of garbage, trash, debris, junk and rubbish was removed from the lake bed and deposited on the periphery of the lake to strengthen the lake bund for 500 metres. On receipt of rains in 2018 the Sengulam Lake filled to capacity and overflowed after a gap of 12 years. It filled and overflowed from 2019 to 2021.
